Chamboree 2026 partners with Chester Zoo

More than 6,000 Scouts and Guides will get hands-on with nature next summer, thanks to an inspiring new partnership between Chamboree and Chester Zoo.

As part of Chamboree 2026, every young person attending the week-long international camp will have the opportunity to learn about conservation from one of the UK’s leading wildlife charities. The camp takes place at Cheshire Showground from 8–15 August 2026 and is one of the largest events of its kind in global Scouting.

For the first time in Chamboree’s history, participants will take part in a dedicated conservation day at Chester Zoo, exploring how small, local actions can have a real impact on protecting wildlife and the natural world.

During their visit, Scouts and Guides will follow a conservation trail around the zoo, use the iNaturalist app to log native species, and take part in practical conservation activities such as updating bee and bug hotels. The aim is simple: turn curiosity into action, and learning into lasting impact.

The conservation focus does not stop at the zoo gates. Back at camp, participants will be encouraged to take part in citizen science projects across Cheshire, record wildlife sightings, and get involved in science-based activities within the event’s Thrive Zone. Alongside this, young people will also take part in litter picks and canal path clear-ups, leaving an immediate positive legacy for communities near the camp.

Chamboree 2026 is open to Scouts and Guides aged 10–17 from across the UK and overseas, with younger members from Cheshire able to take part through day visits and festival-style activities, including sessions for Squirrels aged four and up.

Chester Zoo’s education team say the partnership is a powerful opportunity to motivate a new generation of environmental champions.

Charlotte Smith, Director of Conservation Education at Chester Zoo, said connecting young people with nature plays a vital role in protecting the environment and supporting wellbeing. She added that conservation is not just about protecting iconic species abroad, but also about taking meaningful action for wildlife closer to home here in Cheshire.

Chamboree’s Camp Chief and County Lead Volunteer, Dave Hopley, welcomed the partnership as a perfect fit for the event’s values.

“Chamboree is about adventure with purpose,” he said. “By working with Chester Zoo, every young person will learn from conservation specialists, take part in real citizen science, and leave Cheshire having made a genuine difference, not just with memories, but with impact.”

He added that the partnership helps young people see how everyday actions can add up to something much bigger, building confidence, inspiration and a lasting connection to nature.
